Bowls News & Results

Eddie Fann returned to the Coast yesterday after proudly representing his country in an international senior’s bowling tournament against Zimbabwe. Once again, Eddie achieved gold in the Singles and Pairs disciplines. These achievements must give further credence to the assertion that Eddie is the most successful senior bowler in the history of South African bowls. We, the bowlers of Port Shepstone Country Club, are very proud of our champion!

We had 56 entries for Business Day Bowls for July 2016, and the day turned out delightful and enjoyable, with stunning warm weather and the added bonus of good LIVE music performed by duo Lesley Lancaster & Nan Yeld. Many thanks to Kevin & Vanessa Stott from KuluCrete - Port Shepstone for the sponsorship of the day, as well as all the lovely refreshments and additional Lucky Draw prizes. Winners of the day were the SUMMIT team with TELEPAGE coming 2nd. Well done to all the players who participated.

Bernie Sinclair, a bowls member, donated a Jojo water tank and pump to the Bowls section. A very generous, and much needed, gift. It is people like Bernie that epitomise the wonderful culture of our club. Many thanks Bernie!

Bernie turns 80 next week and will be having a celebration at the Club at 18:00 on Thursday, 23 June 2016. All his friends at the Club are welcome to the event.

The BIG Bowling news of the week were the wonderful results achieved by our side playing in the S.A. Nationals. Eddie Fann took Silver just losing in a very tightly fought final. The score at one stage was 19 all and Eddie just lost 21-19. Well done Eddie and our heartiest congratulations. In the Fours competition our team of Eddie Fann, Roy Anderson, Howard Frizelle and Kevin Lancaster won the Bronze medal coming third and losing narrowly to a team led by Doug Riley from Port Natal. Guys you make the Club proud. Again WELL DONE .

May 2016 - Bronze medalists in the South African Bowls National Championships!!
Well done to Eddie Fann, Howard Frizelle, Kevin Lancaster and Roy Anderson.

The South Coast Herald mixed fours were held last Thursday. The winners were Eddie Fann, Pat Maggs, John Nadauld, and Howard Frizelle on 137 points - May 2016.

The booming bowls section was celebrated and key figures acknowledged at Port Shepstone Country Club’s recent awards ceremony.

Several players scooped prestigious awards whilst the integral and blooming role of bowls at the club was highlighted.

“The bowls club has done a lot to become a real part of the country club and relationships within the club have strengthened because of it,” said Sandy Danckwerts, the club’s advertising, media and events co-ordinator.

“A new pace has also been re-created at the club with good Sunday entertainment and the festive interaction from the bowlers, together with the Business Bowls Challenges that have been put together so well, as well as with new members that have joined recently too.

“A great year of achievements was noted, with a new committee that was nominated at the Annual General Meeting, and Kevin Lancaster remaining as the Bowls President for another year,” she added.

As was the case last year, Eddie Fann and Maureen Muller were recognised as the Bowlers of the Year.

Fann’s 2015 honour roll includes winning individual and team gold for South Africa in a quadrangular bowls tournament in Zimbabwe, while Muller won gold and bronze medals at the South African National Tournament played in the Eastern Cape.

The other big winner was Jenny Rawlins, who was presented with the President’s Award in recognition of her long-time service to the bowling community.
