September 2018:

Port Shepstone Country Club’s Bowls Section achieved much greatness during the weekend of 21/22 September:

  • KBA Masters Singles is probably the most prestigious tournament for the bowlers in our district. There is a strict qualifying procedure to be honoured with an invitation. The tournament is limited to 12 men and 12 women.
  • Port Shepstone Country Club had 4 men bowlers who received an invitation – Eddie Fann, Roy Anderson, Murray Ross & Lynden Wright.
  • Eddie Fann won the tournament, Roy Anderson was the runner-up. Murray Ross and Lynden Wright finished in the top half of the field.

Furthermore it should be noted:

  • Eddie Fann also won the KBA Open Singles and KBA Champion of Champions this year. Together with the KBA Masters title he has done what, we think, nobody else has done. Won all three titles in the same year! The TRIPLE.
  • Eddie Fann on receiving the Masters award announced his retirement from “Singles” bowls.
  • Eddie has won a record total of more than 30 Singles titles at District and National level.

A FITTING TRIBUTE TO EDDIE FANN

Bernie Sinclair, a bowls member, donated a Jojo water tank and pump to the Bowls section. A very generous, and much needed, gift. It is people like Bernie that epitomise the wonderful culture of our club. Many thanks Bernie!

Bernie turns 80 next week and will be having a celebration at the Club at 18:00 on Thursday, 23 June 2016. All his friends at the Club are welcome to the event.

“The bowls club has done a lot to become a real part of the country club and relationships within the club have strengthened because of it,” said Sandy Danckwerts, the club’s advertising, media and events co-ordinator.

“A new pace has also been re-created at the club with good Sunday entertainment and the festive interaction from the bowlers, together with the Business Bowls Challenges that have been put together so well, as well as with new members that have joined recently too.
